Five Packing Tips for your Vacation

July 2, 2014

The summer weather calls for a lot more vacationing. How often have you found that you over pack for your trip or under pack?

Here are five tips to help you be the best packer for your next vacation:

1. Research your destination and make note of the season you are travelling to.

If you are travelling to a hot climate, ensure you bring more clothes than you anticipate you will need. You will get sweaty and want to make sure you have enough clean clothes to last. For cold climates, make note that warmer clothes are often times a lot more bulky. They will take up more space in your suitcase.

2. Roll your clothes.

This is perhaps one of the most space saving tricks for your luggage. Roll them instead of folding them. This will save you a lot of grief when trying to stuff everything back into your neatly packed suit case.

3. Leave some space in your suitcase.

You are travelling. There is a high probability you will come back with souvenirs of your time away. Be conscious of this when you are packing to ensure you are not overwhelmed when you have to repack at the end of your vacation.

4 .Know how many days and nights you will be away.

You will most likely wear two maybe three outfits in a day (daytime and evening). Layout a sample days worth of clothes and multiple that amount by the number of days you will be away. Have a contingency for a little extra if you are going to a hot climate and a little less for a cold climate. Also remember you can mix and match.

5. Hidden compartments in your luggage

Zippers are an often overlooked compartment of luggage but these can be a great space for storage. Ensure you utilize these spaces particularly for lighter clothes like t shirts and underwear, but also for shoes. Another handy trick is to use the space inside your shoes, particularly runners. Stuff these areas with your socks, and your taking up space for one thing, rather than two.
